“LES ARTISTES AINES” - ELDERS IN ART: Art and English Workshops in Nursing Homes
Originally from Harlem, New York, Elesha Casimir moved to Paris in 2019 out of love for France, where she works as an artist. The “Les Artistes Aînés” project was born in response to the observations of her 93-year-old grandmother, who lives in a nursing home and laments the lack of daily stimulation, and her retired mother, who confides that she feels increasingly invisible in the eyes of society as she ages.
Thus the unique program for our seniors was born. This project combines conversation in English, a “jazz café” atmosphere, and visual arts workshops (collages, textile design). The sessions promote cognitive stimulation, fine motor skills, memory, and social connection in a warm and structured setting. They are based on a gentle, individualised educational approach, tailored to each person’s pace.
Casimir operates the program out of the belief that art and culture should be accessible to everyone ages 1 to 100.
